Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 7, 2026
Your privacy is the product. This Privacy Policy explains how Furu (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our mobile application (the “App”). Furu is built on a simple principle: your voice notes, transcripts, and the personal knowledge base you build with them are processed and stored on your device. We designed the App so that we cannot read your notes. There is no Furu server that receives them. By using Furu, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
a. Information processed entirely on your device (never sent to us)
- Voice recordings: Audio you record stays in the App's local storage on your iPhone. It is never uploaded to us or to any third-party AI service.
- Transcripts, notes, and tags: Transcription, summarization, titling, and tagging (topics, people, places) are performed on-device using Apple Intelligence and Apple's speech frameworks. The resulting notes are stored locally on your device.
- Optional iCloud backup: If you enable Backup & Sync, your notes are stored in your own iCloud account under Apple's terms and encryption. We have no access to your iCloud data. You can disable this at any time in the App's settings.
b. Information collected automatically
- Anonymized usage analytics: We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand aggregate usage (for example, which features are used and how often). TelemetryDeck anonymizes data before it reaches us; it does not collect your notes, recordings, or any content, and we cannot identify individual users from it.
- Crash and diagnostic data: Standard, anonymized crash reports may be provided by Apple (if you opted in to sharing diagnostics with developers in iOS settings).
- Purchase status: We use RevenueCat to validate your one-time purchase. RevenueCat processes App Store receipts and a generated, anonymous app-user identifier. We never see your payment details. Those are handled entirely by Apple.
c. Information you provide directly
- Support communications: If you email us at contact@getfuru.com, we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include. We use it solely to help you.
Furu has no accounts. We do not collect your name, email (unless you contact support), contacts, precise location, or advertising identifiers. Place tags are derived on-device from information you grant the App access to and are stored only in your notes.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide the service: All core processing (recording, transcription, organization, search) happens on your device to give you the App's functionality.
- To improve the App: Aggregated, anonymized analytics help us understand which features matter and where the App can improve.
- To validate purchases: Purchase status determines access to the App's paid features.
- To provide support: Information you send us is used to answer your questions and resolve issues.
- For legal compliance: We may retain limited transaction-related records where required by law (for example, for tax or accounting purposes).
Legal bases (EEA/UK users): we rely on (i) Contract: processing needed to provide the App you requested; (ii) Legitimate interests: improving the App and preventing abuse, using anonymized data wherever possible; (iii) Consent: where we ask for it, which you may withdraw at any time; and (iv) Legal obligation: where retention or disclosure is required by law.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your notes or recordings with anyone. We never have them. Limited sharing occurs only with:
- RevenueCat: purchase validation, as described above, under a data-processing agreement.
- TelemetryDeck: anonymized analytics, as described above.
- Apple: App Store distribution, payment processing, and (if enabled by you) iCloud backup, under Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
- Legal compliance and protection: We may disclose information we hold (which excludes your notes, since we do not hold them) if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Furu, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: If Furu is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information we hold may be transferred to a successor who must continue to honor this Policy.
4. International Data Transfers
Your notes do not leave your device (or your own iCloud account), so they are not internationally transferred by us. The limited anonymized analytics and purchase data described above may be processed on servers located outside your home country by TelemetryDeck (EU-based, GDPR-compliant) and RevenueCat (US-based). Where personal data is transferred from the EEA/UK, appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses are used by these providers.
5. Data Retention
- Notes and recordings: Retained on your device until you delete them or delete the App. If iCloud backup is enabled, retention in iCloud follows your iCloud settings.
- Purchase records: Retained by Apple and RevenueCat as needed to maintain proof of purchase and restore access, and as required by law.
- Analytics: Anonymized and aggregated; retained for internal analysis. It contains no personal content.
- Support emails: Retained as needed to assist you; you may request deletion at any time.
6. Data Security
Your notes are protected by your device's security (device encryption, passcode, and, if you enable it in Furu, Face ID lock). Network communication for purchase validation and analytics uses HTTPS/TLS. iCloud backups are encrypted by Apple. Because notes never reach our infrastructure, the most important security control is your device passcode. Please use one, and keep iOS updated.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Because your content stays with you, most rights are exercised directly in the App: you can view, edit, export (free plain-text export, always), and delete your notes at any time. Deleting the App deletes local data; disabling iCloud backup and deleting the App removes synced copies per Apple's iCloud terms. In addition, depending on your jurisdiction (including GDPR and CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal data we hold (such as support correspondence), the right to data portability, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any right, email contact@getfuru.com; we will verify and respond within the timeframe required by your local law (generally 30-45 days). EU/UK users may also lodge a complaint with their local Data Protection Authority.
8. Tracking Technologies
Furu is a mobile app and does not use website cookies. We do not use advertising SDKs, do not access your device's Advertising ID, and do not track you across other companies's apps or websites. Accordingly, Furu does not display an App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is nothing to ask for. Local storage is used only to run the App on your device.
9. Device Permissions
Furu requests only the permissions it needs, and each is optional at the operating-system level:
- Microphone: to record your voice notes.
- Speech recognition: to transcribe on-device.
- Motion: to detect the shake gesture that starts a recording.
- Face ID: optional, to lock the App.
- Location: optional, only to tag notes with a place; used on-device.
- Notifications: optional, for reminders you set.
Denying a permission disables only the related feature.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The App or our website may link to external services (for example, Apple support pages). This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party services; please review their policies. Apple's handling of iCloud and App Store payments is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
11. Children's Privacy
Furu is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because Furu collects no account data and processes content on-device, our data footprint for any user is minimal. If you believe a child has provided us personal information (for example, via a support email), contact us at contact@getfuru.com and we will delete it promptly.
12. Platform Privacy Requirements
We comply with Apple App Store requirements, including an accurate privacy “nutrition label” describing our data practices, and this Policy is accessible from within the App and on our website. We aim to meet the expectations of major privacy regulations, including the EU/UK GDPR and California's CCPA/CPRA, for all users regardless of location.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will provide prominent notice in the App. Continued use of Furu after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
14. Contact Us
Questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy: contact@getfuru.com. We will do our best to respond promptly.
